Shoreline: Karl Bowman Couture on Location, photographed by Tommy Martin
So, back to work with a bang… I am really excited about these shots. They are definitely going to become part of a much bigger series. Plans are afoot, plots are being hatched. There are more than 30 dresses in this new Karl Bowman collection, so I’m thinking that there’s a lot of scope. Combine them with some outstanding models and an array of amazing landscapes to set them in and I think I’ve got some busy days ahead of me…
This turned out to be a fantastic, very short (and short-notice) shoot that started as much as a chance to test a few ideas as anything. The break in the weather last week was forecast a few days in advance, a short window in the middle of pretty bad storms that we’ve been under. I was counting on the skies being spectacular, they generally are between weather fronts like this, and I knew that the afternoon light in St Bees would be great. They were, it was… Happy days..
Behind the Scenes…
MUA Jaye Adams was on another job in the morning, so in the afternoon I headed across the coast with model Kitty Quinzell and assistant Katie Johnston to recce a couple of spots before meeting up with Jaye.
We didn’t get started on makeup until after 4pm. We were on the beach and shooting sometime around 6:30pm. We lost the last of the sunlight behind the headland at 7:45pm. Not a whole lot of actual shooting time.
I was hoping to get 1 or 2 good shots from such a short window, but seem to have ended up with a few more. I’m struggling to choose which one will finally end up in my portfolio, which is always a sign of time well spent.
