When I’m out shooting landscape I’m entirely dependent on the weather and the light that it creates to get the good shots. This is fine, because organising a landscape shoot involves picking up my camera and walking. Some days I get lucky and get some good shots. Some days I just get a good walk.
Fashion shoots are a different beast. Everything and everyone needs to be booked in advance. There are deadlines to meet. Weather forecasts in the Lake District are vague at best, and mostly useless more than a couple of days in advance. You have to pick a date in the diary and work with what you get.
Most shoots, especially when we’re shooting out of season, involve a bit of trickery. There’s a lot you can do with lighting and angles and colour to change seasons. And every now and then you get lucky. On this day I turned up with my usually bag full of lighting gear, I set up a couple stands and softboxes… and I didn’t need any of them. Not even a reflector. The biggest job in post production on these was removing the warning notices that someone had thoughtfully nailed to every other post for the entire length of the jetty.
